Pistons convert combustion pressure into crankshaft rotation. Diesel pistons in turbocharged common-rail engines operate under very high cylinder pressures and temperatures, and are designed with combustion bowls, ring carrier inserts and oil cooling galleries that must match the engine exactly.

Are pistons sold with rings?

It depends on the supplier and reference. Some sell pistons with pins and clips only, with rings as a separate set. Others offer piston and ring sets. Confirm contents in the quotation.

Can a piston from a mechanical-injection version fit a common-rail version of the same engine family?

Often not. Bowl shape, compression height and cooling features are typically different. Use the piston specified for the exact engine code and version.

How many oversize steps are available?

Common steps are 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 mm, but availability varies by engine. Engines with replaceable liners usually use standard-size pistons.
