About Cylinder Liners

Cylinder liners provide replaceable cylinder walls. Dry liners are pressed into the block with no coolant contact, while wet liners are surrounded by coolant and sealed with O-rings. Many truck and some pickup diesel engines use liners, making rebuilds possible without boring the block.

Specifications include bore, outer diameter, length, flange dimensions, and whether the liner is finished (honed, ready to install) or semi-finished (requires boring and honing after fitting). Wet liners need matching O-ring kits and correct protrusion. Cavitation erosion on wet liners is accelerated by poor coolant. Pack liners individually in rust-protected sleeves to prevent bore damage. See overhaul kits.
