About canopies
Canopies enclose the pickup bed to create a secure, weatherproof load space. They are used by trades, service fleets, delivery operators and overlanders, and in some markets as a practical way to carry passengers or goods protected from sun and rain where permitted.
Types
- Fiberglass (FRP) canopies – molded to match the vehicle body lines, painted to the vehicle's color code or supplied primed. Rear lift-up glass door, sliding or pop-out side windows, and often central locking and interior lights.
- Aluminum work canopies – boxy designs with lift-up side doors (gull-wing), drawers and shelving options, and high roof load capacity. Popular for trades and service vehicles.
- Steel canopies – robust, heavy, used for fleet and security applications.
- ABS or composite canopies – lighter molded designs.

Paint and color
Painted fiberglass canopies must match vehicle color codes, which differ by model and market. Some importers prefer primed canopies and paint locally to avoid mismatches and freight scratches.
Freight
Canopies are among the most volume-intensive accessories. Only a limited number fit in a container, and they require protective packing or crating. Plan them carefully in combined loads with smaller pickup and 4x4 accessories. Pickups such as the Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi Triton have canopy fitments specific to each generation.

Frequently asked questions
Should canopies be ordered painted or primed?
Painted canopies are ready to sell but must match local color codes and are vulnerable to freight scratches. Primed canopies allow local color matching and touch-up but require painting capacity. Many importers use a mix.
How many canopies fit in a container?
It depends on canopy design, packaging and whether they can be stacked. Suppliers provide loading plans per model. Expect far fewer units than most other accessories.
Is a canopy better than a roller lid?
Canopies give full-height secure space and weather protection, while roller lids keep the bed open for tall loads when needed and preserve rear visibility. The choice depends on the load type.
