Commercial context

Côte d'Ivoire is the largest economy in the French-speaking West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), and Abidjan is one of the region's leading port and distribution centers. Parts importers in Abidjan supply not only the domestic market but also traders from landlocked neighbors such as Burkina Faso and Mali.

Agriculture, particularly cocoa, coffee, rubber and palm oil, drives demand for pickups and trucks that move produce from plantations to processing sites and ports. Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser-type vehicles, Mitsubishi Triton and Nissan Navara pickups are widely used by businesses and project operators, and minibuses and shared taxis carry urban and intercity passengers. The used-vehicle import trade supplies much of the passenger car parc.

Left-hand-drive parc

Côte d'Ivoire drives on the right, so vehicles are left-hand drive. Thai domestic vehicles are right-hand drive. Most service parts, including filters, brake pads, discs and shoes, bearings, belts, clutch kits and engine components, are the same for both drive sides on a given model and engine. Steering racks, headlamps, mirrors, wiper linkages, dashboard-related parts and some body panels are side-specific and must be ordered in left-hand-drive versions.

Ports

• Abidjan: the country's principal container port and a regional transit hub for Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.
• San-Pédro: in the south-west, closely associated with cocoa exports and serving the western agricultural region.

Documents and cargo tracking note

For shipments to Côte d'Ivoire, a cargo tracking note (Bordereau de Suivi de Cargaison, BSC) is required. The rules on who applies for it and when can change, so buyers should confirm current requirements with their clearing agent before the container is loaded. Standard documents we provide include the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin.

Ivorian customs and trade documentation is French-language. Our export documents are issued in English; if a French translation or specific product descriptions are needed for clearance, please state this at the RFQ stage.

Language and currency

French is the official and commercial language. The currency is the West African CFA franc (XOF), which is pegged to the euro, so many buyers prefer quotations in EUR or USD. RFQs can be submitted in English, and including French part descriptions alongside OEM numbers can help avoid misunderstandings.

Ordering and consolidation

Importers commonly mix pickup and truck service parts with batteries and tires. Our mixed-container service combines these in 20', 40' or 40' high-cube containers with a line-by-line packing list. We quote FOB, CFR, CIF, EXW or FCA; CFR or CIF Abidjan is common for buyers without a forwarder in Thailand.
