Kuwait's vehicle market

Kuwait has a dense, largely urban vehicle parc centered on Kuwait City and its surrounding governorates, with high car ownership and an extensive highway network. The country drives on the right, and vehicles are left-hand drive. Japanese brands, particularly Toyota and Nissan, are well established among SUVs, sedans and pickups, and large SUVs such as the Land Cruiser and Patrol are popular. Passenger cars such as the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic and Accord-class sedans also make up a meaningful share of the parc.

On the commercial side, fleets supporting the oil sector, construction, logistics and municipal services use pickups, vans and light and medium trucks from Isuzu, Hino and Fuso. The Shuwaikh industrial area is widely known as a center for workshops and parts trading.

Drive side and specifications

Thailand's domestic vehicles are right-hand drive; Kuwaiti vehicles are left-hand drive and generally GCC-specification. Drive-side independent parts such as filters, brake pads, discs and shoes, bearings, belts and engine parts can be supplied by model and engine, while steering racks, headlamps, mirrors, wiper linkages, dashboard parts and some body panels must be left-hand-drive versions. Confirm GCC-spec cooling and electrical parts by VIN or OEM number.

Climate and category priorities

Kuwait experiences some of the highest summer temperatures in the region, as well as dust and sandstorms. That directly affects the aftermarket:

• Batteries: extreme heat shortens battery life considerably.
• Cooling: radiators, fans, thermostats and water pumps under sustained load.
• Filters: air and cabin filters during dusty periods.
• Brakes and suspension for passenger cars and SUVs in high-speed highway and urban use.
• Truck parts for commercial fleets, including the Hino 300.

Ports

• Shuwaikh Port: close to Kuwait City and the Shuwaikh industrial and trading area.
• Shuaiba Port: south of the city, near industrial and petrochemical zones.

Documentation and compliance

We provide the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin. Kuwait applies national and GCC standards to certain product categories, and certificate of origin or conformity requirements can change. Buyers should confirm current requirements with their clearing agent before shipment, including any legalization of documents they may require.

Language and currency

Arabic is the official language, and English is widely used in commerce. The currency is the Kuwaiti dinar (KWD). RFQs can be submitted in English.
