About roller lids
Roller lids, also called roller shutters or roll covers, are retractable load-bed covers made of interlocking aluminum slats that roll into a canister behind the cab. They secure cargo, keep out rain and dust, and can be partially opened for tall loads, which makes them popular with both tradespeople and private owners.
Construction
- Slats – extruded aluminum, usually anodized or powder-coated, with a seal between slats.
- Canister – mounted at the front of the bed, housing the rolled cover and spring tension mechanism.
- Side tracks – mounted along the bed rails, guiding the cover and channeling water to drain tubes.
- Locking system – a key lock and latch at the tailgate end; some designs offer central locking integration.
- Drainage – drain tubes route water from the canister and tracks out through the bed floor.
- Manual or electric operation – electric roller lids with remote control are available for some models.
Compatibility
Roller lids are specific to model generation, cab type and bed length. They may be designed to work with or without factory or aftermarket sports bars, and with or without bed liners. Some roller lids have integrated sports bar mounts or T-slot rails for crossbars.
Performance in export markets
Dust sealing, UV resistance of slat finishes and seals, and the durability of the spring mechanism are key quality points in hot, dusty environments. Drain tubes can clog with mud and must be kept clear.
