The Saudi vehicle market

Saudi Arabia is the largest vehicle market in the GCC by a wide margin, with a large and geographically spread parc serving a big population, long intercity distances and substantial commercial activity. The country drives on the right, and vehicles are left-hand drive.

Toyota is a leading brand, and the Hilux pickup, Land Cruiser and Fortuner-type SUVs and HiAce vans are widely used. Nissan, Hyundai, Kia and other brands are also strongly represented. Commercial fleets rely heavily on Japanese light and medium trucks, including the Isuzu NPR and FVR-class trucks, Hino 300 and 500 series and Fuso Canter, for distribution, construction supply, municipal services and agriculture. Economic diversification projects, construction and logistics growth sustain demand for commercial vehicle parts.

Drive side and specification

Thailand's domestic vehicles are right-hand drive, but most service parts are shared between drive sides: filters, brake pads, discs, drums and shoes, bearings, belts, clutch kits, gaskets and engine components. Side-specific parts, including steering racks and boxes, headlamps, mirrors, wiper linkages, dashboard components and some body panels, must be supplied in left-hand-drive versions. Saudi-market vehicles are usually GCC-specification, which can affect cooling and electrical parts, so VIN or OEM references are recommended.

• Heat: high summer temperatures make batteries and cooling components (radiators, fan clutches, water pumps, thermostats) high-turnover lines.
• Sand and dust: filters, especially air filters, for vehicles on desert highways and in construction and agricultural areas.
• Long-distance driving: brakes, wheel bearings and tires on vehicles covering long intercity routes.

• Jeddah Islamic Port: on the Red Sea coast, serving Jeddah, Makkah and the western region.
• King Abdulaziz Port, Dammam: on the Gulf coast, serving the Eastern Province and, by road, the Riyadh region.
• King Fahad Industrial Port, Jubail also serves the industrial east.

Riyadh-based buyers commonly import through Dammam and move goods inland; confirm routing with your forwarder.

SABER and conformity

Saudi Arabia requires many imported products to be registered on the SABER platform, operated under the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), with Product Certificates and Shipment Certificates depending on the product's regulation. Vehicle parts, tires and batteries can fall under specific technical regulations. Requirements are updated regularly, so buyers should confirm the current SABER requirements for each product line with their clearing agent before we finalize the order, and share the certificate details needed for shipment.

We supply the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin. Tell us if your broker needs particular product descriptions, HS codes or marking on the goods or packaging.

Language and currency

Arabic is the official language, and English is widely used in trade. The currency is the Saudi riyal (SAR), which is pegged to the US dollar. RFQs can be submitted in English.
