About engine overhaul kits
Engine overhaul kits combine the internal parts needed to rebuild an engine into a single order. They are widely used by rebuilders and fleet workshops in markets where engines in pickups, light trucks and buses are overhauled rather than exchanged.
Typical kit contents
Kit contents vary widely by supplier and engine, so every kit should be specified line by line. Common components are:
- Pistons with pins and circlips
- Piston ring sets
- Cylinder liners (on engines that use them), with O-rings for wet liners
- Main bearing and connecting rod bearing sets
- Thrust washers
- Full gasket set, including crankshaft and valve stem seals
- Optional: valves, guides, seats, timing components, oil pump, water pump
Rebuild scope
- In-frame kits – for rebuilds where the crankshaft stays in the block and cylinders are honed or liners replaced.
- Out-of-frame kits – for full rebuilds with crankshaft grinding and block machining, requiring bearing and piston sizes chosen after measurement.
Sizes and grades
Kits are offered in standard size and specific oversize and undersize combinations. Engines with graded head gaskets need the correct grade selected after assembly measurements, so some kits supply the head gasket separately.
Engine relevance
High-volume rebuild engines include diesel engines used in Toyota, Isuzu and Mitsubishi pickups, and truck engines such as those in the Hino 500 and Isuzu NPR. Rebuild quality depends as much on machining, cleanliness and correct assembly as on parts. For individual components, see pistons.
Buying & specification guide
- Engine code, version and production date; OEM part numbers for key components if available.
- Kit type and contents: list every component, including whether liners, bearings, thrust washers and full gasket set are included.
- Sizes: piston oversize, bearing undersize for mains and rods, and liner type (dry/wet, finished/semi-finished).
- Head gasket grade: included grade or separate order.
- Brand mixing: ask whether all kit components come from consistent sources, since mixed-quality components make warranty responsibility unclear.
- Documentation: installation clearances, torque specifications and a contents list help rebuilders and reduce claims.
- Packaging: one rigid carton per kit with internal separation; pistons and liners protected individually. Mark the size combination clearly on the outer carton.
- Stock planning: standard-size kits for the most common engines can be stocked; oversize combinations are usually better ordered to confirmed demand.
Export supply
Engine Overhaul Kits can be quoted on FOB, CFR, CIF, FCA or EXW terms and combined with other product groups in a single consolidated container. Send part numbers, quantities and destination port for a validated quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Do engine overhaul kits include cylinder liners?
Kits for engines that use replaceable liners usually include them or offer them as an option. Kits for engines without liners include oversize pistons for rebored cylinders. Confirm per kit.
Can I order a kit with mixed sizes?
Many suppliers can combine piston, main bearing and rod bearing sizes to match a specific engine's machining. Specify each size separately in the order.
Is an overhaul kit enough to rebuild an engine?
Kits cover the main internal wear parts. Most rebuilds also need oil pump, water pump, timing components, head parts, injector service and filters, depending on condition.
