Clutch Covers (Pressure Plates)

The clutch cover, or pressure plate, bolts to the flywheel and clamps the disc using a diaphragm spring. Worn or overheated covers show heat spots, cracked pressure surfaces and weakened diaphragm fingers, causing slip or poor release.

Most light vehicles use push-type diaphragm covers, while some trucks use pull-type designs. Specifications include outside diameter, disc diameter, bolt circle and hole count, clamp load, finger height and dowel positions. Heavy-duty covers increase clamp load for towing and high torque but increase pedal effort. Covers are usually replaced with the disc and release bearing, often as clutch kits. Pack individually to protect the pressure surface from rust.
