About u-bolts
U-bolts clamp leaf springs to axles. They stretch and lose clamp load over time, and should be replaced whenever springs are replaced or a U-bolt nut has been loosened on a truck.
U-bolts are specified by thread diameter and pitch, inside width, leg length, thread length and shape (round, square or semi-round bend). Material grade and heat treatment matter because under-strength bolts allow axle shift and spring center bolt failure. Supply is typically with high-tensile nuts and washers. Longer U-bolts are required when fitting lift blocks or thicker spring packs. See leaf springs and components.
