Pilot Bearings

Pilot bearings support the transmission input shaft in the crankshaft or flywheel. They are small, inexpensive and normally replaced with every clutch job, since a worn pilot bearing causes noise, vibration and premature clutch wear.

Types include sealed ball bearings, needle roller bearings and sintered bronze bushings. Specify by ID, OD, width, and whether the bearing fits in the crankshaft or the flywheel. Many clutch kits include the pilot bearing, but not all do. A seized pilot bearing can also damage the input shaft nose, turning a simple clutch job into a gearbox repair. Pilot bearings pair naturally with clutch kits and release bearings.
