Southern Africa includes one of the continent's most developed automotive markets in South Africa, which builds pickups locally and has an established parts distribution and fleet maintenance sector. Further north, landlocked economies such as Zambia depend on mining, agriculture and cross-border trucking, with long corridor routes that create steady demand for heavy-duty service parts.

One-ton pickups, including the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max and Nissan Navara, are among the most common vehicles in the region. Minibus taxis based on the Toyota HiAce platform are a key part of public transport in South Africa, and light to heavy trucks from Isuzu, Hino and Fuso are widely used in distribution, construction and mining supply.

Drive side

South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique and Malawi drive on the left, so their vehicles are right-hand drive, which matches Thai domestic vehicles. Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo drive on the right. Distributors supplying across these borders should specify the drive side for steering, lighting, mirror and body parts.

Locally built and imported vehicles

Because several pickups sold in South Africa are built locally, and many vehicles in neighboring countries arrive as used imports from Japan, the same model name can cover different specifications across the region. Mechanical service parts are often shared within a generation and engine, but electrical, emissions and trim parts can differ. Listing OEM numbers, VINs or engine codes on each RFQ line avoids costly mismatches, particularly for distributors supplying customers in several countries.

South Africa applies compulsory specifications to certain automotive safety components, and other countries in the region have their own import standards. Buyers should confirm current requirements with their clearing agent before ordering. We quote FOB, CFR, CIF, EXW or FCA and can consolidate mixed loads through our mixed-container service.
