About Rack Ends
Rack ends, or inner tie rods, screw into the ends of the steering rack and connect to the outer tie rod ends. They are protected by rack boots, and when boots tear, dust and water destroy the inner ball joint quickly.
Specify by OEM number, rack type (hydraulic or electric power steering), thread size and pitch at the rack side and outer tie rod side, overall length and ball housing design. Left and right rack ends are often identical, but not on every vehicle. Rack boots and clamps should be stocked alongside because a new rack end fitted with a damaged boot will fail early. Outer ends are listed under tie rod ends.
