Radiator Fan Motors

Electric fan motors draw air through the radiator and A/C condenser, particularly at low speed and idle. They are standard on transverse-engine vehicles and are also used for condenser cooling on many pickups with engine-driven main fans.

Motors fail through worn brushes, bearing wear and water ingress. Specifications include voltage, power rating, shaft diameter and length, rotation direction, connector type and whether the motor is supplied bare, with blade, or as a complete shroud assembly. Complete fan assemblies are bulky; bare motors ship more efficiently. Some vehicles use dual-speed or PWM-controlled motors requiring specific resistors or modules. Related: cooling fans and blades.
