About Cooling Fans & Blades

Cooling fan blades move air through the radiator. Engine-driven fans on pickups and trucks bolt to a viscous fan clutch; electric fans mount to motor shafts. Cracked or deformed blades cause vibration, noise and reduced airflow, and in severe cases a blade can detach and damage the radiator.

Specify by overall diameter, number of blades, blade pitch, center bore and bolt pattern, rotation direction and material (glass-filled nylon or steel). Truck fans are large and should be packed flat in rigid cartons. Fans should be matched to the correct fan clutch and shroud, because an oversized blade can overload the clutch and water pump bearing.
