About horns
Horns are safety devices and, in many markets, are used heavily in traffic, which shortens their life. They fail through moisture ingress, corrosion and contact wear.
Electric horns come as disc (flat) horns and trumpet (snail) horns, often sold in high- and low-tone pairs. Specify by voltage (12V or 24V), frequency or tone, current draw, bracket type and connector. Truck and bus air horns operate from the air brake system and require solenoid valves. Sound level regulations vary between countries. Aftermarket horns with higher current draw should be installed with a relay; see relays.
