About Relays
Relays allow low-current switches and control units to switch high-current circuits such as fuel pumps, fans, headlights, horns, starter circuits and glow plugs. They fail through contact wear, coil failure and moisture ingress.
Relays are specified by voltage (12V or 24V), current rating, pin configuration (normally open, changeover), footprint (micro, mini, ISO), and internal suppression diodes or resistors. Relays that look identical can differ in internal wiring and suppression, which matters for ECU-controlled circuits. Timer and flasher relays and glow plug controllers are specialized types.
