Parking brake systems on pickups and SUVs use cables operating the rear drum shoes, dedicated drum-in-hat shoes inside rear discs, or on some trucks a transmission-mounted drum brake. Cables stretch, corrode and seize, especially on vehicles driven through water and mud.

Cable specifications include overall length, outer sheath length, end fittings and position (front, rear left, rear right). Cables often differ between wheelbase, cab and drive variants of the same pickup, so the OEM reference and vehicle details are essential.
