Brake drums remain the standard rear brake on most pickups and many vans and light trucks. They provide a strong parking brake function and resist the mud and debris that affect rear discs, but they wear and distort with heavy loads and repeated long descents.
Overheating from overloading causes hard spots, cracks and out-of-round drums, leading to pulsation and uneven shoe wear. Drums worn beyond the maximum diameter (cast on the drum) must be replaced rather than machined. In humid climates and on vehicles parked for long periods, rust can seize drums to hubs.
Inner braking diameter, maximum diameter, braking surface width, overall height, center bore, bolt circle and hole count, and whether the drum includes bearing races or an ABS ring. Drums for pickups such as the Mitsubishi Triton are often ordered with brake shoes and wheel cylinders.
Brake Drums can be quoted on FOB, CFR, CIF, FCA or EXW terms and combined with other product groups in a single consolidated container. Send part numbers, quantities and destination port for a validated quotation.
They can be skimmed if the finished diameter remains below the maximum marked on the drum and there are no cracks or heat damage. Otherwise replacement is required.
Repeated overheating from heavy loads and long descents, sudden cooling in water crossings and excessive machining that thins the drum are the most common causes.
