About ABS Sensors & Components

ABS components measure wheel speed for anti-lock braking, traction control and stability systems. The main replacement items are wheel speed sensors, which are exposed to mud, water, heat and damage during suspension or brake work, and tone rings that corrode or crack.

Sensors are passive (inductive) or active (Hall-effect or magnetoresistive), and they differ by position, side, cable length, connector and bracket shape. Front and rear, left and right are commonly different part numbers. Active sensors working with magnetic encoder rings in wheel bearings must be matched correctly. Specify by OEM number and vehicle details, and pack sensors so cables and connectors cannot be crushed.
